Undergraduate Degree Program of Rift Valley Interdisciplinary Shuyuan

The term “Rift Valley” refers to our local environment; the term “Interdisciplinary” refers to our professional orientation; and the term “College” refers to our philosophy.

Rift Valley Interdisciplinary College was formerly known as the “Freshman Undivided Department” of the University. In order to take into account the forward-looking and futuristic nature of higher education, as well as to respond to the modern trend of interdisciplinary development and the need for a systematic cultivation of the knowledge integration and construction skills required by the “interdisciplinary” system, Rift Valley College plans to set up a special unit for the implementation of four-year interdisciplinary undergraduate education, and to establish the “Rift Valley College Bachelor's Degree Program” after two terms of the “Freshman Undivided Department.

This degree program is based on a cross-disciplinary perspective of “humanistic literacy” (understanding and caring for the nature of human social activities), linking the professional fields of the seven colleges of the University to provide students with a cross-disciplinary professional development field. In addition, with the guidance courses and the graduation project, students will develop the ability to integrate what they have learned and then put it into practice in society.

In addition, the degree program has a “Dual Instructor System”. The “Family Mentor” is responsible for counseling students to develop appropriate expertise so that they can acquire the knowledge necessary for problem solving, while the “Class Mentor” is responsible for dealing with the counseling of students' career development planning and various matters of life in the class. Through the establishment of the “Dual Instructor System”, students will not only be able to avoid getting lost in their “non-departmentalized” academic journey, but also receive adequate care in various aspects of their career development and life.
